300+ Immigrants and Allies Declare ‘Home is Here’ in the Face of DACA Attacks
Over 300 Immigrants and Allies Declare Our ‘Home is Here’ in the Face of DACA Attacks at the 5th Circuit Court
Yesterday, HANA leaders joined over 300 DACA recipients, DACA-eligible young people, and allies who came together from across the country for a day of action in New Orleans where a major hearing concerning the future of the DACA program was being heard.
The lawsuit was brought forward by anti-immigrant forces in Texas who have spent over a decade shamefully tearing at the fabric of immigrant communities and targeting programs aimed at protecting undocumented communities and their loved ones. Despite these calculated, hate-filled attempts to harm our communities, the Home is Here coalition brought together hundreds of people to pack the courts at the 5th Circuit to demand the Court uphold DACA. Following oral arguments, the Home is Here coalition also hosted a rally, vigil, and press conference that brought together key litigators, directly impacted individuals, and allies.
Woojung (Diana) Park, from HANA's sister affiliate MinKwon Center, spoke at the press conference:
"We call on the Fifth Circuit Court, who is holding the lives of parents, children, students, dreamers – to restore and preserve the DACA program. We call on Congress to legislate a pathway to citizenship for all undocumented immigrants. Our home is here and we are here to stay!"
Being in New Orleans with hundreds of others filled us with energy and hope. It was a reminder of why we push for #citizenship4all: Because every person, regardless of color, class, ability, or citizenship status, has the right to live safely with their loved ones. Every person deserves access to quality education, healthcare, housing, and support. Together, we can make this a reality.
In solidarity,
HANA Center
