HANA Center’s HUD-certified housing counselors provide FREE, one-on-one counseling, workshops, and referrals to support low- to moderate-income households, limited English-speaking Korean Americans, and multiethnic immigrants to obtain and maintain affordable housing. 

Housing Counseling Services

We offer personalized counseling for rental issues, foreclosure, and homelessness, etc. If you have any housing-related concerns or questions, please reach out! Counseling can be conducted in Korean, Spanish, or English, either virtually or in-person at either of our locations. If you have any housing-related concerns or questions, please reach out! Let us know if you have a time-sensitive matter like a court summons. 

Our focus areas include:

  • Post-purchase (Homeowner Counseling - Property Tax Exemptions, Retain homeownership, Home Repair/Maintenance, etc.)

  • Foreclosure prevention (Mortgage Assistance/Loss Mitigation Application help, Legal Aid Referral, etc.)

  • Rental (Public housing, Eviction Prevention, Rental assistance application help, etc.)

  • Budgeting and financial capability

  • Homeless Counseling

  • Pre-purchase (Homebuyer Counseling)

Informational Workshops

Our informational workshops provide insight and details on various housing-related topics. We have built our workshops to answer the most frequently asked questions. These workshops are available in-person and online via zoom and are provided in English, Korean and Spanish. Availability is subject to change by date and location. We hold workshops every month. Court-Based Rental Assistance Application Help

The Illinois Court-Based Rental Assistance Program (CBRAP) provides financial assistance to Illinois tenants and landlords who have pending eviction cases in court. This program is exclusively available to those involved in eviction proceedings.

If you need help with your application or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the HANA Center for assistance! Please note: Application review is administered by the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA). HANA’s housing counselors can help tenants and housing providers submit CBRAP applications. However, HANA Center does not make decisions on the applications and questions about applications should be directed to IHDA.
