상정된 드림법안을 환영한다.
2017년 8월 20일 미 연방 상원 린지 그램
(공화당-사우스캐롤라이나)의원 과 딕 덜빈
(민주당-일리노이주)의원은 공동으로 서류미비
청소년들에게 시민권 신청 자격을 부여 하는
드림 법안을 상정 했다. 상정된 드림법안은
자격이 되는 청년들에게 임시 영주권을
부여하고 궁극적으로는 시민권 부여의 기회를 제공한다. 미연방 하원에서도 유사한
드림법안이 곧 상정될 것이다. 드림액이 법으로 제정 된다면 130,000 여명의 아시안 아메리칸 청소년 포함 1백 5십 여만 명의 서류미비 이민 청소년들이 영주권을 신청 할 수 있게 된다.
최근 3주 전 택사주의 법무장관을 중심으로 남부 주들이 공동으로 트럼프 행정부에게 청소년
추방유예(DACA) 프로그램을 2017년 9월 5일 까지 중단하지 않으면 추방유예프로그램 폐지를 위한 법정 소송을 한다고 발표한 상황에서
연방 상원에 상정된 드림법안은 이민자
청소년과 이민자 커뮤니티에 반가운 소식이다.
2012년 8월 15일 부터 실행된 추방유예
프로그램에 현재 800,000 여 명의 서류미비
청소년들이 혜택을 받으며, 추방의 공포에서
벗어나 그들의 재능과 능력을 미국 사회에
기여 하고 있다.
미교협과 가입단체들은 트럼프 행정부와
미연방의회가 서류미비 청소년들을 보호하고
그들의 소중한 꿈을 실현 하는데 큰 도움을 주는 추방 유예 프로그램을 보호하고, 하루 빨리
드림액을법으로 제정 할 것을 강력히 촉구한다.
NAKASEC & Affiliates Call on Congress to Support and Protect Our Young People!
Yesterday, Senators Durbin (D-IL), Graham
(R-SC), Schumer (D-NY) and Flake (R-AZ) reintroduced the DREAM Act (Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors) into the United States Senate. The DREAM Act will grant conditional residency for undocumented young people and provide them with a pathway towards citizenship. It is expected the bill will also be re-introduced into the House of Representatives shortly.
About three weeks ago, the Texas attorney general with nine other states threatened to sue the government if DACA is not rescinded by September 5th. Ending the DACA program will throw the lives of almost 800,000 young people into chaos, stealing their ability to work, provide for their families and live without fear from deportation, and study. This is unacceptable and Congress must act now to ensure DACA is maintained and protected.
The re-introduction of the DREAM Act is a beacon of light during these dark times and, with our young people, we must fight for the best and most inclusive version of this bill. There are an estimated 130,000 DACA eligible Asian American and Pacific Islanders in the U.S. We urge our Members of Congress to both protect DACA and pass the DREAM Act immediately so that our young people can live without fear and with dignity.
