Domestic Violence Awareness Month

HANA Center staff created a collaborative NongGi honoring survivors of domestic violence.

This month, HANA recognized Domestic Violence (DV) Awareness Month to raise awareness, support survivors, and work together toward safe and respectful relationships in every community. During the month of October, we showed our solidarity by creating a collaborative NongGi honoring survivors, educating community members with a 3-part De-Mystifying DV series on HANA's Instagram, and provided a DV 101 workshop with 9 participants.

Domestic violence is a pattern of coercive control that one person exercises over another (Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence). DV doesn’t always look the same. It can be physical, emotional, verbal, or financial—and it can happen to anyone, regardless of race, language, immigration status, gender identity, social class, religion, or background. No matter the circumstances, no one deserves to experience abuse.

If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse, you are not alone. HANA Center’s Community Wellness program provides trauma-informed and survivor-centered counseling and support in Korean, Spanish, and English. We offer a safe, supportive, and culturally responsive space where immigrant survivors can be heard, empowered, and begin their healing journey. Our domestic violence counseling services are confidential and free of charge.
