Job Description
HANA Center (HANA) is a Chicago-area, community-based non-profit organization working to meet the critical needs of Korean, Asian American, and multiethnic immigrant communities and build power toward systemic change. HANA Center has offices in Chicago and Prospect Heights, Illinois.
HANA engages and mobilizes 16,000 community members each year in the metropolitan Chicago area with centers in Chicago’s northwest Albany Park neighborhood and northwest suburban Prospect Heights. Key programs include immigration services, crisis intervention and domestic violence assistance, case management, workforce development, health education and screenings, ESL and citizenship classes, public benefits assistance, pro-bono legal services, housing services, senior services, youth leadership development, community organizing and advocacy, and civic engagement.
Position Summary:
The Outreach & Volunteer Coordinator will work closely with HANA’s social service, community engagement, and organizing programs to conduct outreach, share information about programs and services, and support volunteers.
Major Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Work closely with program leads to develop and implement effective outreach strategies to increase program enrollments
Conduct phone calls and email campaigns to individuals and organizations to build awareness of HANA and relevant programs
Recruit, onboard, train, and support volunteers in HANA’s organizing, community engagement, and social service programs
Represent HANA virtually and in-person at community events, targeted meetings, and conferences to increase visibility of programs
Lead planning of HANA’s annual community engagement events including Lunar New Year Celebration, Member Congress, and others
Support in-person canvassing for civic engagement campaigns, Know Your Rights information distribution, and rapid response efforts
Respond to community members requesting services and connect them to appropriate HANA programs
Maintain accurate records and provide timely information for grant reporting and communications
Participate in and complete all required training
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Demonstrated commitment to immigrant rights and social, economic, and racial justice
Belief in communities’ ability to support each other, heal, organize, and achieve desired goals together
Experience working on Korean American, Asian American, immigrant community issues, and/or social, economic, and racial justice issues preferred
Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work effectively with people of diverse social, faith, economic, and racial / ethnic backgrounds
Track record of proven organizational skills to manage, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a dynamic and changing environment, both as an individual and as a member of a team toward meeting organizational goals
Ability to take initiative, work independently, think creatively, and problem solve with a commitment to continued learning
Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
Ability to effectively develop and implement outreach efforts to increase community engagement
Proficient in using database systems – EveryAction, VAN, other CRM experience a plus
Willingness to work flexible hours to fulfill responsibilities during some evenings and weekends
Bilingual proficiency in Korean and/or Spanish is an asset
Valid driver’s license, car, car insurance, and ability to travel between HANA’s Chicago and Northwest Center (Prospect Heights) locations and various outreach locations locally
Reports To: Senior Manager of Community Engagement
Compensation: This is a full-time position with a salary range of $43,000-$48,000 and benefits that include paid leave, paid sick leave, health, dental, vision, short-term disability, long-term disability, life, and 401K.
