Job Description
HANA Center (HANA) is a Chicago-area, community-based non-profit organization working to meet the critical needs of Korean, Asian American, and multiethnic immigrant communities and build power toward systemic change. HANA Center has offices in Chicago and Prospect Heights, Illinois.
HANA Center’s Community Education program equips English-language learning Korean and multiethnic immigrant community members with the education, tools, and resources toward developing core skills and actualizing their goals, including naturalization, enrollment in continued education, and employment in safe, living wage jobs. Outreach to HANA’s community is a critical aspect of the Community Education program, including the engagement of instructors, volunteers, and interns.
The Education & Outreach Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day administration of HANA’s Community Education programs and developing curriculum for classes which include English as a Second Language (ESL), Technology, ESL Citizenship, Korean Language and Korean Art classes, and ESL tutoring. The Education & Outreach Coordinator is also responsible for conducting outreach to community members and organizations and coordinating the engagement of volunteers, interns, and other community members with the Community Education program and HANA’s broader services and organizing programs.
Major Responsibilities:
Coordinate day-to-day administration of education classes and tutoring, including registration, testing, monitoring student attendance and progress, providing referrals, and follow-up
Develop a mission-aligned curriculum that facilitates students’ learning and preparation toward their goals, as well as community empowerment and engagement of students and volunteers in HANA’s organizing and advocacy campaigns
Facilitate training, coordinated check-in meetings, and individualized support for instructors and tutor volunteers
Develop and conduct robust outreach activities regularly to a wide range of organizations to develop and strengthen referral partnerships
Recruit and coordinate ongoing placement and onboarding of volunteers and interns to support one-on-one tutoring and classes
Ensure completion of timely and accurate grant reporting
Maintain excellent record-keeping; ensure confidentiality and integrity of data collected
Provide instruction to one or two ESL, Citizenship, Technology, and Korean classes.
Provide task supervision for instructors, volunteers, and interns as assigned
Plan and organize community-building and special events for students, volunteers, and instructors
Conduct outreach to a wide range of organizations to develop and strengthen referral partnerships
Participate actively in professional development, learning cohorts, working groups, and coalitions

Qualifications:
Demonstrated commitment to immigrant rights and social, economic, and racial justice
Belief in communities’ ability to support each other, organize, and achieve desired goals together
Experience working on Korean American, Asian American, immigrant community issues, and/or social, economic, and racial justice issues preferred
At least one year of experience teaching and/or administering adult educational programs with diverse learners
Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or a related field preferred
TESOL, TEFL, and/or CERTA, CASAS preferred or must be willing to obtain post-hire. Familiarity with Illinois Content Standards is a plus.
Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English is required.
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication and conflict-resolution skills
Strong organizational and time management skills and ability to prioritize multiple projects
Attention to detail and accuracy and track record of meeting deadlines
Self-starter; works independently with minimal supervision
Ability to think creatively and independently; commitment to learning
Ability to motivate and inspire team members to take initiative, problem solve, and innovate
Intermediate computer proficiency required, including experience with Microsoft Word and Google Workspace
Willingness to travel and work with a flexible schedule, including evenings and occasional weekends
Valid driver’s license, car insurance, and reliable access to a car
Reports To: Senior Manager of Community Engagement
Compensation: This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary range of $42,000 - $47,000. HANA Center offers a full benefits package that includes paid time off, paid sick leave, health, dental, vision, short-term disability, long-term disability, life insurance, and 401k.
