We Will Stand Up to White Supremacy!
The January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol was not just a one-off occurrence, but the most recent consequence of our country’s deeply rooted systemic problem of white supremacy. The white militants who stormed the Capitol are among millions who have been emboldened by Trump and his racist immorality.
Amid the horrific attacks, rioting, and violence, we witnessed the police’s complicity in and enabling of white supremacy. There is video footage showing Capitol Police allowing white militants to come through a gate and storm the Capitol.
In the uprising that followed George Floyd’s murder, peaceful Black protesters were met with an entirely different response. Law enforcement did not hesitate to assault and use violence against those who were speaking out against police brutality and the attack on Black lives; over and over we have seen police target, detain, and even kill Black people protesting for equal justice. In contrast, the police in DC — one of the nation’s most policed cities with one of its most militarized police forces — showed little to no opposition to white supremacists viciously mobbing the Capitol. HANA Center stands in solidarity with the Movement for Black Lives in calling to defund the police. We must reject any attempts to increase funding for police in response to recent events.
Our society cannot afford to simply return to business as usual. White supremacy will fall only when all of our people thrive. More than ever, it is critical for us to hold fast to our values and fight to make this world a better place — a world with Citizenship for All, Healthcare for All, Education for All, clean air, drinkable water, the freedom to move, and everything else that our communities need to flourish.
We will not be stopped by white supremacy. HANA Center will continue working to build a better future for our families and communities and dismantle anti-Blackness. As the Biden-Harris administration takes office, we will launch a 100 Day Campaign to fight for #CitizenshipForAll and demand action to protect and support our immigrant communities. 하나센터는 백인우월주의에 대항하여 싸울 것 입니다.
2021년 1월 6일 미국 연방의회에 대한 공격은 단발적으로 벌어진 일이 아니며 우리 사회에 깊숙이 자리매김하고 있는 구조적 백인우월주의의 단면을 보여줬습니다. 미 의회를 점거한 백인 폭도들은 트럼프와 그의 인종차별적 악행을 부추긴 주범들입니다.
이 끔찍하고 폭력적인 폭동 중 우리모두는 어떻게 경찰이 백인 우월주의자들의 진압을 포기함으로서 그들의 폭력을 묵인하였는지 확인했습니다. 이미 많은 비디오를 통해 의회경찰들이 백인 폭도들이 의회를 점거할수 있도록 길을 열어주었는지 확인이 됬습니다.
조지 플로이드의 죽음 후에 벌어진 항쟁에서 평화로운 시위를 하고 있던 흑인 시위대는 경찰로부터 어제와는 매우 다른 대응을 받았습니다. 경찰과 주방위군은 흑인들에대한 경찰의 무분별한 폭력에 대항하여 목소리를 내던 시위대를 공격하고 폭력을 사용하는데 주저가 없었습니다. 평등한 권리를 위해 시위하던 흑인생명들을 공격하고, 체포하고 또 죽이기 까지 하는 경찰의 모습을 우리는 지속적으로 확인해왔습니다. 반대로 가장 무장이 잘 되어있는 경찰 중 하나인 DC 경찰은 백인우월주의자들이 미 의회를 향한 공격을 시작했을때에는 어떠한 대응도 하지 않았습니다. 하나센터는 경찰에 대한 전면적 예산삭감을 요구하는 흑인들의 움직임을 지지합니다. 우리는 근래에 일어났던 사건들에 대한 대응으로 경찰에 대한 그 어떤 예산 증대에 찬성할수 없습니다.
우리는 이런 일련의 사건이 일어나기 전으로 쉽게 돌아갈수 없습니다. 우리의 유색인종 커뮤니티가 번창해야만 백인우월주의자들을 저지할수 있습니다. 그 어느때보다도 우리들의 도덕적 가치를 드높이고 이 세상을 좀 더 나은 세상으로 만들기위해 계속 싸워야 합니다. 그 세상은 모든이가 교육을 제대로 받고, 모두에게 신선한 공기와 오염되지 않은 수자원, 시민권이 주어지며 이동의 자유가 확립되는 등 우리 커뮤니티가 번창하기위해 필요로 하는 모든 것들을 제공받을수 있는 세상을 말합니다.
저희는백인우월주의자들로 인해 주저 하지 안습니다. 하나센터는 저희의 가족들과 커뮤니티의 좀 더 나은 미래와 우리 사회안에 반 흑인정서를 없애기 위해 열심히 일하겠습니다. 바이든-해리스 행정부가 들어서면 #모두를위한시민권을 쟁취해내기 위해 100일간의 캠페인에 돌입할 예정입니다. 이 캠페인을 통해 저희 이민자 커뮤니티를 보호하고 발전시킬수 있는 행정부의 정책을 요구할 예정입니다. 인종적 사회적 그리고 경제적 정의를 실현시키기 위해 우리 커뮤니티와 공동으로 주최하는 이번 캠페인에 많은 관심과 참여 부탁드립니다.
